Bay Area Furry ("BAF") usually refers to one of the following:

The region arguably has the world's greatest concentration of furries per square mile. One oft-cited reason is furdom's historic base in the online world, where Silicon Valley technologists had an unusually high level of access during furdom's growth in the 1990s.

There is a new meet up in Sunnyvale every Monday evening around 6pm to 9pm or so, at Gobi Mongolian BBQ. It is a new restaurant and features excellent Mongolian BBQ! The cost is about $10-$11 which includes: all you can eat Mongolian BBQ, rice, soup, egg rolls, a drink, and vanilla soft-serve ice cream! Smash originally organized it."

[edit] Tuesdays

  • Pizza Naughm
When: around 7 p.m.
Where: Me-N-Ed's Pizzeria, 3900 Decoto Road (Walgreens Plaza), Fremont, CA
Directions: Via 880, take the Decoto/highway 84 exit and head inland (right if from 880 north, left if from 880 south). Via 84 (Dumbarton Bridge), just continue forward when it turns into Decoto Road. Turn right into the Walgreens lot just past Fremont Blvd. Me-N-Ed's is in the back corner of the shopping center.

The pizza is quite good with many different varieties. Try the Hot Hawaiian! Beer is also on tap. This was originally organized by Helvetica Bold.

"Naughm" is intended as a more meaty, cheeks-full version of the word "nom," which is sometimes used to indicate ravenous eating (e.g. "Nom nom nom nom!").

[edit] Wednesdays

  • Revenge of Pizza, RAWR! (Yes, that's the name that stuck)
When: 6:30 and going on till people are full
Where: Giovanni's Pizzeria, 1127 North Lawrence Expressway, Sunnyvale, CA 94089, 408-734-4221
Directions: Via 101, take 101 to Lawrence Expressway, North/East bound (away from the condo complex). take the first left. go past the gas station, and turn right into the small strip mall. It'll be the second storefront on the left (about 500 feet (152 m) in from the street).

[edit] Thursdays

When: Usually starting around 6 p.m.-ish
Where: Smoke Eaters (formerly known as "University Chicken"), 2565 The Alameda, Santa Clara, CA 95050
GPS:(Lat/Lon): N 37 20.717 W 121 56.159
Tel: 408-241-2582, Fax: 405-241-2572
Directions: Take 101 south to 880/17. Take 880/17 west/south, take the Alameda exit. Proceed North. Street will Y, with main section continuing to right. Turn left. Take 3rd or 4th driveway on left (it's between the Taco Bell, and Safeway)... (Also if you see fursuiters walking around the Safeway parking lot, that's probably the place)... People show up as early as 5 PM, and are typically there till about 9-10 p.m. or so, especially for those of us working-late types. Free wireless internet access. Some furs drift away in small groups to the nearby Mission City Coffee Roasting Company or "Smoke This!" hookah-smoking establishment after the initial meeting.
There is a new restaurant that recently opened, next door to 'Smoke This' called 'Wrap This!" Owned by the same person who opened Smoke This, they serve Gyros, flat-breads and other traditional Mediterranean food, they also serve American fare.

~Alot of furs do come to this area... and from far distances too! From Santa Cruz to Santa Rosa -- This seems to be the most popular meet up.

[edit] Semimonthly

When: starting at 8 p.m. every other Friday night; dates announced on the mailing list
Where: Sagemane, Syrus and Hunter Gryphon's apartment in the Excelsior District of San Francisco
Directions: Available by RSVP only

[edit] Monthly

When: First Tuesday of the month, nearly always; watch the list
Where: Au Coquelet Cafe, 2000 University Ave., Berkeley
Directions: From Downtown Berkeley BART, walk North on Shattuck to University. Turn left and Au Coquelet is at the end of the block on the left hand side. From campus walk West on University two blocks. The furs usually meet in the back room (as opposed to the room with the cashier).
Expect to find: expensive coffee and pastries, as well as reasonably-priced pastas, omelettes, burgers, sandwiches, soups. $8-10 is common for entrees.

-Don't let the prices deter you from coming to the meet. Not all furs who do go get any food, and there is a cheap ramen shop (among other tastey non-expensive places) + McDonalds around. The idea is to get together in a nice place, not to spend all your cash. ~ Noted by Ryshili

[edit] Currently Dead Gatherings

The following gatherings appear to be moribund. For details, ask on the BAF discussion list before going.

  • SF Furmeet at Sparky's
When: Starting at 7 p.m. on the first Monday of every month (or, if the day happens to be a National Holiday, then typically the following Monday).
Where: "Sparky's Diner" at 242 Church St. in San Francisco, CA 94114 (phone: 415-626-8666)
Directions: Located on Church St. between 15th St. and Market St. It's a fairly easy walk down 16th Street from BART -- walk uphill, then turn right on Church Street and walk another few blocks. Nearby MUNI transit includes the 22, 35, F, J, K, L, M, and N lines. All let you off somewhere near Church and Market. Driving is possible, but expect some difficulty in finding parking nearby. Available food includes burgers, sandwiches, pasta, some vegetarian entrées, salads, ice cream, coffee drinks, sodas, shakes and $1.25 beer specials on Mondays! Typical price for a main dish is $6-12.
  • Wednesday Taco Time! - DEAD
What: Dead due to stagnation and cliquishness.
  • Wednesday Coffee - DEAD
What: The evolution of the Wednesday "Coffee" tradition, started in the mid-90s at Coffee Society in Cupertino, continuing (and converging with #GaySanJose) at Cafe Leviticus, then moving on to CyberCafes in Sunnyvale, and culminating in Exciting Random Location. May still be going on, but Reveille is no long the one to contact about it.
