Codename Werewolf is an Extinctioners webcomic created by Karl Kratt which aims to fill in certain background details of the Extinctioners story line, along with a completely separate storyline within itself. The tale is combined with humor about movies, music, the military, and politics. Currently, there is one issue currently published on the internet, though rumors of a re-write and transformation into a graphic novel have not been confirmed.

[edit] Sgt. Kratt
Sgt. Kratt is the lead character in Codename Werewolf; he has yet to appear in any Extinctioners comics.
Sgt. Karl B. Kratt is a human who serves as an Aviation Operations Specialist at Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 378th Special Operations Aviation, Montana Army National Guard, before being accidentally sent forward into the future by Miki and Rokko. Once there, his life is saved by Dr. Ken Donnoura, who performs an experimental heart surgery by injecting him with nanites. The experimental procedure had the side effect of turning him into a humanimal, specifically an anthropomorphic brown hyena. Eventually he is given the power to transform back into a human almost at will, giving him the nickname of Werewolf.

- June 29, 2005 - December 12, 2005: Attended United States Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colorado. Honorably Discharged. Recommended for continuing service.
- June 26, 2006 - December 11, 2012: Joined Montana Army National Guard as a 15P, Aviation Operations Specialist, with the rank of Private. Attached to 1-189th AVN upon completion of Basic Training. Re-assigned to 1-378th AVN after tour of duty in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Received GWT Expeditionary Medal and National Defense Medal.
- December 11, 2012: Sgt. Kratt is missing and presumed dead after his helicopter reportedly crashed into a mountain near Groom Lake Air Force Base, Roswell, New Mexico.

- May 29, 2010: Operation Leap Frog begins following the destabilization of Iran into civil war in the preceding month. Operation Leap Frog involves the delivery of weapons and supplies to anti-Mullah and anti-extremist guerrilla fighters by unmarked former Soviet helicopters. Sgt. Kratt participates in the operation as a gunner on an MI-2 Hoplite, light transport helicopter.
- August 1, 2010: Sgt. Kratt's helo carrying supplies explodes on the ground near Tehran. Sgt. Kratt is severely injured from shrapnel, broken bones, and a concussion after being ejected from the cargo hold by the force of the explosion.
- August 16, 2010: Sgt. Kratt is rescued by Special Operations forces after spending 15 days behind enemy lines. Kratt is awarded POW/MIA ribbon and Purple Heart.

Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 378th Special Operations Aviation, Montana Army National Guard is a fictitious Army National Guard unit based out of Kalispell, Montana, which appears in the Extinctioners fan comic, Codename Werewolf.

[edit] The Phoenix Bird
The 378th AVN was created from the old 189th AVN out of Helena, Montana, so a phoenix was the perfect choice as it arose from the ashes of another squadron.
[edit] Squadron Colors
- Black: Symbolizes night and the darkness, the void from which the Battalion came. It also has the connotation of stealthiness, since helicopters have the tendency to be the first into a county in the dead of night.
- Red: Blood and fire, both of which were used in the creation of the United States and in the creation of the 378th AVN. Red is used to honor those who gave their lives for their country.
- Yellow/Gold: Peace and happiness, which come from the eternal vigilance.

Because they rose from the ashes, the 378th wanted to be called the Phoenix, but because an Aviation Battalion in Arizona already had that name, the 378th opted to change the name by one letter, so they removed the "o".

[edit] Volume 1, Issue 1: Origins Part 1
Sgt. Kratt is accidentally sent into the future by Miki and Rokko, after they mistake his helicopter for one carrying Delta Force operatives. After his helicopter crashes into a skyscraper in downtown Yukoutoki Major, the sergeant is accidentally shot by the Andorozon Tsuneko in a friendly fire incident. He is saved only when Dr. Ken Donnoura tries an experimental surgery on his heart using nanites, which turn him into a humanimal. When he awakens from his two month stasis session, he finds the Evil Cat Sisters (ECS) are ransacking Sei Ryu Labs.

- Kratt's squadron is named in honor of Phenix, a character from the Extinctioners.
- Codename Werewolf is one of the few comics to make fun of the movie Big starring Tom Hanks. This happens on page 21 of Volume 1 Issue 1.
- Groom Lake Air Force Base, Roswell, New Mexico, is the alternate name of the famous Area 51.
- According to Codename Werewolf, Delta Force is housed in Groom Lake and functions as its security force. In reality, 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta is based in Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
- Codename Werewolf was originally supposed to be a Stargate SG-1/Extinctioners Crossover, but the idea was scrapped.
- SGT Kratt fairly mimics the writer's life with few exceptions, one being SGT Kratt stays in the National Guard and makes a career, rather than gets out because of a scholarship.
- Originally, SGT Kratt was Lieutenant Kratt. When he left the Academy, the character was changed to Warrant Officer Kratt. He became SGT Kratt just before the story was first drawn in February 2006.
- One idea that was passed around was for Lieutenant Kratt to make an appearance as some kind of Android. This idea has not been taken into consideration for any future comics.
- In the Codename Werewolf Earth, the United States military still has the same uniforms from Vietnam, though the black beret and the Army Combat Uniform have been instated as the more common uniforms worm by servicemen.
- SGT Kratt was never allowed to wear his Purple Heart or his POW/MIA ribbon when he was alive, since his mission was strictly classified. That changed in 2109, 100 years after Operation Leap Frog ended, when the whole operation was declassified and the records made public.
