El Goonish Shive

El Goonish Shive is a Keenspace comic of moderate popularity, created by one Dan Shive and typically updated three times each week, with additional updates to subsections of the site.
The comic is humorous with a healthy dose of drama; it is largely story-driven and centers around a small group of main characters of high-school age and extraordinary qualities. Much of the comedy is tongue-in-cheek absurdity found within (and used to lighten) the dramatic if only intermittently intense storyline, which features romances, self-discoveries, government and corporate intrigue and, yes, conflict and violence - all of it mild. El Goonish Shive is firmly PG-13 and never strays into obscenity or graphic violence; however, some of the content does involve such issues as homosexuality, gender-switching (magical, not surgical) and murder.
While not generally an explicitly Furry comic, the cast does include characters who transform and animal/human hybrids with distinct anthropomorphic traits and may be of interest to furry readers for these reasons. It would, however, be potentially deleterious to the comic to associate it with the frequent stigma of Furry, as well as unfair - the majority of characters are human, and animal/human anthropomorphic hybridization is involved in only one of several interwoven storylines, albeit the largest.
El Goonish Shive is a warm, friendly and surprisingly well-written comic, potentially both intriguing to furries and absolutely safe for those with furry-related misgivings, and comes highly recommended.
