Gir Tygrin

Gir Tygrin is the administrator of the Michigan Furs website, one of the moderators of the MIFur LiveJournal community and mailing list, and an event organizer in the Michigan furry community.

Gir is the chaiman of Michigan-based convention Furry Connection North, scheduled to take place in April 2008, and attends a variety of other events, including Anthrocon, Midwest Furfest, Feral!, and Megaplex. He is on 2's DVD "The Gods Hate Me" on the commentary track, referring to himself as the "random other guy."

Gir Tygrin's character is an anthropomorphic Siberian Tiger.

[edit] Event organizer and MiFur involvement

In 2004 Gir started organizing furmeets in the Ann Arbor, Michigan area. Originally the meets consisted of anywhere from 12-15 people but over the years have ballooned to an average of around 40 in attendance per event. The success of these meets prompted Gir to hold other more specialized events including zoo trips, mini golf meets, and smaller parties. In 2006 Gir joined the planning committee for ConClave, assisting in the organization of the furry track. He has since limited his involvement with the convention to focus more on other projects. At present he routinely organizes at least one large furmeet in Michigan per month and slightly less frequently will host a smaller specialized RSVP only gathering.

As the Michigan furry community grew Gir decided that there needed to be an online resource dedicated to furries in Michigan. In 2006 he started MichiganFurs.com to serve as a resource for area furries to promote events, provide biographical information on local furries, and to host content relevant to furries in Michigan created by furries in Michigan. The website is under constant construction and frequently recieves updates.

In July of 2007 Gir conceived the notion that with as rapidly as the Michigan furry community was growing that the state needed it’s own furry convention. With the help of his good friends 2 and Nik Vulper they began the planning for Furry Connection North. Gir has taken up the reigns as chairman and hotel liaison and has pressed the idea forward. The convention is on track to becoming a reality and is scheduled for April 11th-13th of 2008. The convention will include performances from 2 and Uncle Kage along with a laser show and fursuiting panels from guest of honor Latin Vixen.

In addition to being an event organizer Gir is also a costumer and fursuiter making tails, ears, fursuit parts, and pretty much anything that involves fur. Gir mainly focuses on making high quality, seamless tails. Much of his recent work has dealt with fully airbrushed fur instead of pre-patterned material. Gir has recently began expanding the scope of his work to also include tails with skeletal systems and armature structures to add more realistic movement.

For over 10 years Gir has experimented with the art of face and body painting. While he is mainly proficient in feline patterns, he is familiar with how to paint a person as many different species of animal. He is experienced with using traditional brushes and sponges or an airbrush to create practically any fur pattern or color scheme.
