[edit] Description

This event, which is organized by the Mississippi Anthropomorphics, takes place every summer in Hattiesburg, Mississippi (USA) for any and all furries and other sci-fi enthusiasts in the surrounding area. MAP! stands for "Mississippi Anthro Picnic" as well as "Mississippi Anthropomorphics". The picnic lasts only one day and all events, activities, food, and entertainment is provided by the Mississippi Anthropomorphics.

[edit] History

The first picnic was held on August 5th, 2007 as a pre-meet for Mephit Fur Meet 11. Instead, the 14 furries and 1 human who attended this potluck picnic decided it should be held annually. Our plans are to continually host this event at Kamper Park, a part of the Hattiesburg Zoo. Kamper Park is a public leisure park with walking trails, tennis courts, an event-orientated Pavillion with wireless internet access, and easy access to the zoo.

[edit] Current Events

DATE: Sunday, July 20, 2008

PLACE: Hattiesburg Zoo & Kamper Park at the Pavillion

107 South 17th Avenue, Hattiesburg, MS, 39401 USA

WHEN: From 12:00 PM until sunset

LUNCH: 2:00 PM

As much as we regret it, we were unable to make this event free. There will be a $5.00 USD minimum donation per person. Please contact Kuron Mareil for payment information. In exchange, you get lots of food, tons of fun, and a custom-made badge. Each attendee can submit a picture for your badge. If not, a MAP! 2008 Mappi badge will be issued. There is limited wireless internet service available only under the Pavillion, which we will have for that day, but we would advise leaving most electronics behind for this event. This is an outdoors-only thing, so there won't be an area to store personal, expensive items. This PG-rated event is family-orientated and open to all ages. There will be no offensive language, alcohol, tobacco, or any drug-related substances of any kind allowed at this event.

Kamper Park is open to the public with no specific hours of operation; however, it is known that the local police patrol this area after dark for safety's sake. We suggest that you arrive to the picnic early to be able to vist the Zoo and the animals hosted.

The Hattiesburg Zoo hours of operation on Sunday, July 20, 2008 are as follows:

10:00 AM until 4:00 PM - Admission to the Zoo is $2.00

The Train & Carousel runs from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM - Tickets are $1.25

Currently, there are no guests of honor or pre-planned activities, so this means we can all have a relaxed, lazy Sunday afternoon and just enjoy the weather (may sunshine prevail) and each other's company. Any and all are welcome. If anyone wants to bring anything bigger to the event, please let us know and we're sure it'll be a hit.
