Non-anthro

Non-anthro (may also be written as non-anthropomorphic) is an ambiguous term used by some for characters that do not share any human characteristics, and by others for characters that only have human characteristics.

According to the former, a non-anthro furry character is a normal dog, cat, horse, et cetera. However, in the furry community the words non-anthro and nonmorphic are often used interchangeably.

According to the latter, a non-anthro character is a normal human.

Nonmorphic (may also be written as non-morphic) is a term used differently by different people.

For some, it means characters that have human characteristics such as sentience and/or speech and clothing, but which do not have an anthropomorphic body.

Many animated movies, for instance The Lion King or Balto, have nonmorphic characters (in this sense) that can speak and think like a human being, but whose body is that of a normal animal. These are sometimes referred to as talking animals.

Another commonly used term for this sense of nonmorphic is feral.

For others, the term denotes characters (persons) who lack any noteworthy morphological features, and thus are entirely human, though sometimes with a similar emphasis on physical form (nonmorphic could mean for them a physically human being with the mind of an animal, which also appears occasionally in some genres.)
