Otaku

Otaku is a Japanese term used to refer to a variety of obsessed people, including those who are obsessed over things such as anime, music, manga, singers, furries, computers, videogames, military, martial arts, cooking or even metrophilia. Outside of Japan, it is more commonly used to refer to a fan of anime and manga as a label the term Trekkie or fanboy. However, many older or more moderate anime fans dislike the term, as it has negative connotations within some subcultures. Unpleasant stereotypes about otaku prevail in worldwide fan communities, and some anime fans express concern about the reputations these more extreme fans can earn their hobby. Many furries are also otaku and often display such in anime-style art or large collections of anime. Otaku often find connections to the fandom through characters, such as catgirls or kitsune, as well as other anthropomorphic characters (known as kemono or kedamono) in anime.
