Paul Kidd (born 1963) is an Australian writer who created such works as Fangs of K'aath (and its sequel, Guardians of Light), Mus of Kerbridge, The Rats of Acomar, and A Whisper of Wings. He has also created several non-furry works, including graphic novels, live film, animation, and games (both computer and otherwise).

Paul's works include an animated feature called Tank Vixens, the novel Fey, and Spooky and Tinkle (a comic drawn by Tamara Carmichael). He contributed to Rowrbrazzle until issue #59 (Oct 1998), when he resigned over the actions of Marc Tucker.[1]

Paul Kidd was a guest of honor at ConFurence East 1996 and at Anthrocon 2000.

[edit] Controversy

In 2004, Paul was prosecuted[2] and later convicted[3][4] for 18 months on charges related to pornography. The news of the conviction was greeted with disbelief by many of those who knew Paul personally. The sentence was suspended to 2 years probation on appeal[5].

Reasons proposed online for the case included:

  • Concerns (ultimately dismissed) over photographs of his children sent for processing in a photo lab two years earlier[6]
  • Ownership of a computer containing downloaded child pornography used (and gifted) for that purpose by a friend; without Paul's knowledge, but in his possession (the core of the case)
  • Allegations of content inappropriate for minors stored on his website server (Australia has unusually strict laws on mature website content)
