The Sociology of Furry Fandom is a document by David J. Rust, using data he collected at conventions in 1998 to 2000, and from paper and online surveys.

325 people were surveyed in-person, and 35 people were surveyed over the internet.

It showed that 26% of furries were aged between 18-22, 26% were aged between 23-28, and 26% were aged between 29-35.

70% of furries came from the USA, mainly on the West and East Coast. 27% came from Canada, 20% coming from Eastern Canada. 3% came from Europe.

Most furries came from large cities (34% came from cities with populations between 100,000-250,000 people).

94% of furries were of a caucasian background.

42% of furries are single, whereas 30% were married. 51% were in a monogamous relationship, whilst 47% were in or wanted a polyamorous relationship.

Perhaps most interestingly, 48% of furries were bisexual, 25% were hetrosexual, and 19% were homosexual. 2% were zoophiles, and less than 1% were plushophiles.

In terms of faith, 33% of furries were agnostic, 20% were NeoPagan, whilst only 18% were Christian.

42% of furries have had some sort of college education, and 31% of furries are students.

35% of furries earn less than $10,000.
